Smoke-free campus

Erasmus University Rotterdam attaches great value to providing a healthy working and learning environment. From August 2020, the university campus will therefore be completely smoke-free.

From August 2020, the campus will be completely smoke-free. From that time, smoking will only be permitted off campus. The smoking ban applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and applies to all tobacco products. Change is in the air!

Do you smoke?

The university will realize a completely smoke-free campus from August 2020, which means that smoking on campus will no longer be possible. The smoking zones and the final ban can mean a change in your daily routine. Discuss any bottlenecks with your manager.

With the slogan Change is in the air, the Erasmus University is calling attention to the changing smoking policy that appeals to both smokers and non-smokers. The slogan indicates involvement and the will to change with regard to society, sustainability and health / vitality.

General Measure of Governance

By making the campus smoke-free, the University is also preparing for the General Measure of Governance concerning smoke-free school sites, which is currently being drawn up by the Ministry of Public Health (VWS). This General Measure of Governance for smoke-free school sites will come into force on 1 August 2020. This means that all school sites (from primary school to Higher Professional Education/University) must be completely smoke-free. The Ministry of Public Health (VWS) has set itself the goal of enabling Dutch residents to make healthier choices, which will ensure that they become ill less frequently, require less care and set a good example to their children. It wants to encourage young people to smoke less.

Participate in the EUR smoking panel

Together with some employees and students, we are thinking about how the EUR can become smoke-free. By involving smokers, the quality of the proposals and the eventual change are better substantiated. We held the first meeting in May, and we want to plan the second in September. Let us know if you want to join this panel by sending a short mail with your motivation to tomorrowscampus@eur.nl.
