As I Left My Father’s House

In the impressive musical theater piece As I left my Father’s house, refugees from several cultural and religious backgrounds tell their stories. Stories of people who have to live with the consequeces of hostility, violence, war and extremist worldviews, and who have to built a new home, far away from their own countries.

Bright O. Richards, initiator of As I left my father’s house and one of the actors, fled from Liberia and with support of the UAF studied at the Film Academy and Theaterschool. As I left my father’s house has been performed over 200 times and awarded with a Compassieprijs in 2011.

The evening will be opened by Ton van der Pijl, secretary of the College van Bestuur of the Erasmus University. Afterwards, there is a discussion with the audience, led by Journalist Sophie Derkzen.

The theater piece will be performed in the context of the centennial celebration of the Erasmus University, and as part of the 65th anniversary of Stichting voor Vluchtelingen-Studenten UAF. This program is sponsored by the Erasmus Trustfonds.
