Discovering the Dutch

Description:

Which remarkable characters and ideas shaped Dutch society as it is today? In this kick-off episode of Discovering the Dutch-lectures, the splendid scholar Frans Willem Korsten takes us back to the Dutch Golden Age of heroes and demons, politicians and pirates. After a short dinner break we continue with the screening of Michiel de Ruyter (2015), about the famous naval commander (or perhaps we should say “pirate”…) who conquered the seas in the era of Dutch domination.
