For the love of music | Lecture

Music goes far beyond words, it expresses the things most difficult to express and it can sooth you instantly. Philosopher Tomas Serrien makes you listen differently to even your most cherished songs. With live music by Ramón Daci.

Music provides us with a soundtrack to our lives; there a songs that bring you back to past times and songs that always make you cry. Some songs remind you of lost friends or lovers, and on some artists you can always rely to lift your spirit and make you feel energized. We naturally feel and experience music, even babies react to it emotionally. Why is it that we love music so much? How can music make us feel a certain way? And do we experience different emotions when we listen to Chopin, Amy Winehouse or Bob Dylan?

Sound triggers the way we experience emotions and memories. But what is the difference between sound and music? And when does the emotional experience kick in? Do we listen attentively enough to music? And how do the doves experience it? In this program you improve your listening skills via live music and philosophy to better understand your musical experience.

Tomas Serrien is a philosopher specialized in the philosophy of music, in 2017 he has published the well-received book Klank on the musical experience. As a drummer he is also involved in several musical formations.
